Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Gaya was established on 1967, it started functioning from 1st August 1967.Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 is  a prestigious institution catering the needs of education as per the policy of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. Education in Kendriya Vidyalayas is focused not only in the academic activities but also for the overall development of the child. The emphasis goes to the physical and intellectual growth making the child to develop into an integrated personality able to survive in the modern world by giving quality education.

Kendriya Vidyalaya is a system of central government schools under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.The system came into being in 1963 under the name "central schools" and has been affiliated with CBSE since then. Later, the name was changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya. Its objective was to educate children of the Indian Defence Services personnel who are often posted to remote places. With the army starting its own Army Public Schools, the service was extended (but not restricted) to all central government employees. The uniform curriculum followed by these schools all over India ensures that the children of government employees do not face education disadvantages when their parents are transferred by providing a common syllabus and system of education. A body known as the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (Central School Organization) oversees the functioning of these schools. It operates from its headquarters in New Delhi.

Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 runs near the Gaya Railway Station and situated in Bageshwari. It has classes from Class I to XII,Three Section with a strength of about 1382 students and 59 staff members. It is a big school striving to achieve academic excellence and development in the total personality of the students.
